BEIJING (AP) - Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Xiao Lijian says China, Russia, Pakistan, and Iran are committed to working together to promote peace, security, and stability in Afghanistan in general and the region in particular.


He said that the United States and its allies should fulfill their responsibility to rebuild Afghanistan, there is concern over the uncertain situation in Afghanistan, the international community should provide humanitarian assistance to Kabul.


During his regular briefing yesterday, the spokesman said that Chinese State Consul and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Dushanbe with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and senior Iranian Foreign Minister Rassoul Mousavi. Also met on the sidelines of SCO and CSTO meetings. The situation in Afghanistan was discussed in detail.


On this occasion, the Foreign Ministers stressed that Afghanistan's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity must be respected. The basic principle of Afghan leadership and Afghan patronage must be implemented and the right of the Afghan people to peace, development, and prosperity must be upheld.


The two sides also stressed that the United States and its allies must fulfill their primary responsibility for Afghanistan's social and economic reconstruction and provide Afghanistan with the necessary economic, food, and humanitarian assistance. ۔


The two sides stressed the need for a comprehensive government based on national reconciliation in Afghanistan that puts the interests of all language groups first.


The spokesman added that the two sides, recognizing the challenges facing Afghanistan, stressed the need to address the threat of terrorism, drug trafficking, and regional stability, and the protection of legitimate concerns and interests of neighboring countries.


The two sides expressed concern over the humanitarian and socio-economic uncertainty in Afghanistan and called on the international community to continue providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. The spokesman said the two sides also agreed to continue co-operation in this regard and to hold a meeting at an appropriate time.
